There are 28 archaeological sites within the vicinity (15km radius) of Qivitoo sea cliffs. You are required to avoid disturbing any archaeological sites. If you are interested in obtaining the location of these sites please contact me. I have attached a data information license agreement and the relevant terms and conditions. On November 14, 2008, the NIRB received a positive conformity determination (North Baffin Regional Land Use Plan) from the Nunavut Planning Commission and commenced screening of this project proposal. NIRB has assigned this project proposal file number 09YN002. The project is located in the North and South Baffin regions, near the communities of Clyde River, Qikiqtarjuaq, Pond Inlet and Iqaluit. The purpose of the project is to determine the glacier and climate evolution of Baffin Island on long, pre-historic time scales. The program is proposed to take place from April 15, 2009 to August 31, 2009, and continue each year to 2011. The project activities include: § Collecting rock and sediment samples from sampling sites near Clyde River, north Barnes Ice Cap, Broughton Island and Qivitoo sea cliffs. § Collecting lake sediment core samples through ice from lakes near Clyde River and from lakes west of Iqaluit. § Establishment of temporary camps at each sampling location. § Use of helicopters for transport of field personnel. § Use of snow machines and boats. § Temporary fuel storage. § Water usage, sewage, greywater and waste production related to camp operation. Sewage and greywater to be buried. Combustible and non-combustible waste to be carried-out. Pursuant to Part 4, Article 12 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA), NIRB shall proceed to screen the subject project proposal. NIRB may request additional information at any time during the process. NIRB will copy you on screening process related correspondence and upload related documents to the above ftp site for public access. Be advised that NIRB is copying interested Parties and municipalities most affected by your project proposal. Interested persons are encouraged to comment directly to the NIRB by January 26, 2008. NIRB would like Parties to provide comments regarding: § Whether the project proposal is likely to arouse significant public concern; and if so, why; § Whether the project proposal is likely to cause significant adverse eco-systemic and socio-economic effects; and if so, why; § Whether the project is of a type where the potential adverse effects are highly predictable and mitigable with known technology, (please provide any recommended mitigation measures); and § Any matter of importance to the Party related to the project proposal.
