Plain Language SummaryWho:Ekaluktutiak Hunters and Trappers Organization (EHTO)What: Guided Sports Hunts to be conducted by EHTO Certified Inuit Guides. It will be conducted in groups of 4 for a maximum of a six-day period. Total Number of tourists would not exceed 12 in the spring and 15 in the summer/fall. There are two existing EHTO cabins that will be used during these periods. Transportation will be by snowmobile in the March/April period and Boat/ATV in the Summer/Fall period.Why: EHTO Certified Inuit Guides will educate both sport hunting and adventure tourists on traditional hunting practices and provide opportunities to experience Inuit culture and way of life while traveling on the land. The EHTO and Guides will receive substantial tourism dollars. Cambridge Bay will also benefit financially from the tourists staying in the community on the first and last night of their hunt. All activities will be carried out under the Nunavut Wildlife Act and by EHTO’s policies and procedures ensuring no waste or debris will be left on the land. Spring travel does not disturb the land at all and summer travel by boat will not disturb the land.Where: The majority of the tourism activity will take place on Queen Maud Gulf Bird Sanctuary near Ellis River and by the existing EHTO cabins.When: The proposed dates are March 1 to April 15 and August 1 to October 1.
