Parks Canada installed a new temporary field camp at Dundee Bight in 2022-2023, in part, to determine its suitability as a long-term operations camp. The camp at Dundee Bight has shown to be a suitable spot for operations and an expansion is being proposed to increase functionality and staff safety. The expansion would involve the following key changes to the current camp:1)Addition of new platforms and hard sided shelters: a) shed (16’x20’), b) outhouse/garbage storage (8’x10’), c)change room/shower (6’x6’),2)Existing platform (16’x16’) will be used for hard-sided kitchen 3)Fuel tank containment (5’x5’), for one tank of fuel to operate two cabin GeoStoves.4)Water would be pumped from the nearest stream to a tank for personal use. 5)A grey water pit 4’x4’x4’ is being planned. 6) A propane incinerating toilet is planned. 7) A larger fuel cache with up to 50 fuel drums would be maintained year-round. 8) Other associated structures would include a weather station, solar panels, bear fence. The camp is expected to be used for the next 10+ years approximately 2 weeks per year in the summer, possibly at times for longer periods, and at times in spring. The existing airstrip and buildings will require ongoing basic maintenance. Access to the site will continue to be by snowmachine and aircraft, waste would continue to be transported to the waste facility in Resolute Bay.
