Henry was born on Victoria island, in a place called Koyapik (Stromness Bay). Which is about 75 miles east of Cambridge Bay. From there Henry’s family moved to Anderson Bay where his family had an outpost camp. This is where he learned to fish and trap year-round. Later Henry attended Stringer Hall in Inuvik. And after his time in residential school, Henry moved Cape Peel with his parents, at a DEW Line site close to Gjoa Haven. Then him and his family moved back to Anderson Bay.

Henry’s first job was working as a truck swamper for Cambridge Bay’s water and sewage deliveries. Eventually Henry started working for the Language Bureau in Cambridge Bay with the Government of the Northwest Territories, then with the NWT Housing Corporation as a Board of Director. And has worked as a freelance Inuinnaqtun interpreter/translator. In 2005 Henry was appointed as a board member with the NIRB and has worked for the board ever since.
